We provide 30 minute appointments for checkups because we hate being rushed, and we know that you do too! Because of this, at Fisher Glen Animal Hospital you will spend the entire appointment with the veterinarian. You will often finish your appointment with a veterinary technician, who will go through any instructions/handouts with you. Additionally, when booking, you will always be asked if you prefer to see the same veterinarian. Whenever possible, we will make every effort to make that happen!
We begin each visit with a thorough history of your pet’s habits, behaviour, and lifestyle. We encourage you to bring in a list of any questions you have so that we can address them all. The veterinarian will then examine your pet nose to tail, with assessment of their oral and dental health; eyes; skin, coat, ears and anal sacs; circulatory system; respiratory system; lymphatic system; neurological system; abdominal organs, and musculoskeletal system.
If your pet is ill, Dr. Baar, Dr. Gates or Dr. Papiernik will discuss further testing and treatment options. Consequently, together you can determine a course of action that you are comfortable with financially and emotionally. Furthermore, if it’s annual checkup time, we will determine what vaccinations are due, and set up any required preventive health treatments. This may include such treatments as heartworm prevention and other parasite control.
At this point, a technician may come to take samples from your pet, or to show you how to administer medication, trim nails, or to discuss therapeutic diets. Our three technicians, Cheryl, Katie and Jolanda, are all very experienced and happy to answer any additional questions you may have. We always want your experience at Fisher Glen to surpass your expectations, so if for any reason you are not satisfied please let our staff know.
Our goal at Fisher Glen Animal Hospital is to provide a complete health care plan for your pet. We schedule your first visit with a puppy or a kitten for a full hour, allowing us to discuss all aspects of training and husbandry, and to address any “new parent” concerns that you may have! We will thoroughly explain any procedures to be carried out, and a quote will be provided. If your pet is ill, we will schedule a follow-up exam or telephone call with Dr. Baar, Dr. Gates or Dr. Papiernik.
Because your pet’s medical needs change as they grow from a puppy or kitten to an adult, then progress to a senior patient, we tailor our approach accordingly. We believe in creating an individualized vaccination, examination and preventive health plan for each patient. Furthermore, we will do our best to work within your pet health budget, providing options whenever feasible, while still providing you with the best care possible.
