Our goal is to provide a complete health care plan for your pet, starting with a 30-minute physical examination each visit. Your first visit with a puppy or a kitten will be a full hour, allowing us to discuss all aspects of training and husbandry, and to address any “new parent” concerns that you may have! Any procedures to be carried out will be thoroughly explained, and a quote will be provided for any work-up. If your pet is ill, a follow-up exam or telephone call from Dr. Baar or Dr. Gates will be scheduled.
Because your pet’s medical needs change as they grow from a puppy or kitten to an adult, then progress to a senior patient, we tailor our approach accordingly, creating an individualized vaccination, examination and preventive health plan for each patient. We will do our best to work within your pet health budget, providing options whenever feasible, while still providing you with the best care possible.
We provide surgical services from routine spaying and neutering to non-elective procedures such as emergency and orthopedic surgery and wound repair. Our emphasis is on keeping your pet as safe and pain free as possible.
We recognize that having your pet under anesthetic can be worrisome, however a pre-anaesthetic blood screen is performed prior to any surgical procedure to ensure that your pet is healthy enough to undergo surgery, and intravenous fluids are routinely used for all surgical patients. Each surgical patient is monitored by their own personal veterinary technician throughout their procedure and hospital stay. State-of-the-art monitoring and warming equipment is used to ensure that your pet is kept safe and comfortable while under anesthetic.
We are equipped with both a regular X-ray and digital dental x-ray machine, and an automatic developer. This allows us to take and process X-rays quickly with minimal waiting time.
In order to provide your pet with a healthy mouth, we are equipped with a digital dental X-ray and a dental cleaning unit. When your pet comes in for a dental assessment and treatment, full-mouth X-rays are taken, any extractions necessary are performed with your permission, and a full cleaning and polishing is performed. We also stock dental foods and cleansing products to help you maintain your pet’s oral health.
We perform some routine laboratory testing on-site. More complex blood work and tissue samples are sent to a certified laboratory. We are able to access your pet’s laboratory results electronically as soon as they are ready, so that they can be assessed by a veterinarian. You will receive results by telephone as soon as they are available, and if there are any abnormalities you will be contacted directly by Dr. Gates or Dr. Baar for a full explanation.
We keep a number of veterinary diets in stock, but if we don’t have what you are looking for, we can easily order it for you within two days. We also carry grooming supplies including shampoos, nail trimmers and ear cleansers. And, for the pet who keeps to a strict oral hygiene plan, we have toothbrushes, toothpastes, dental toys and special dental diets that make the task a little bit easier!
